hOUSING
Housing is personal. It’s about whether families can stay in the community they love, whether seniors can remain in their homes, and whether young families can afford to put down roots.
As your neighbor, I hear it everywhere in the 47th Legislative District: housing costs are rising faster than incomes, and families are being pushed farther from work, schools, and support systems.
What Neighbors Are Experiencing
Across Kent, Auburn, Covington, and surrounding communities, neighbors tell me:
- Rent keeps rising, with fewer options available
- Homeownership feels out of reach for first-time buyers
- Property taxes are putting pressure on longtime homeowners
- Growth is happening faster than roads, schools, and services can keep up
Housing insecurity affects families, seniors, and workers as well as impacting traffic, schools, and public safety.
cARMEN’S Approach to Housing
We need more housing but it has to be done thoughtfully and responsibly.
As your neighbor, I support:
- Increasing housing supply at all income levels, including starter homes and family-sized units
- Respecting local communities and existing neighborhoods
- Cutting red tape that slows construction and drives up costs
- Planning growth alongside infrastructure, not after the fact
Housing solutions should help people stay in their communities, not force them out.
